Why You Should Hire a Curve Ball

Why You Should Hire a Curve Ball Who knew really that they were going to choose recruitment as a career? I certainly didn’t; I was bored, very bored in a corporate telesales job and I stumbled across an advert for a trainee recruiter role and thought to myself, this sounds like fun, lets give it a whirl….. I wasn’t the required graduate level (only did 2 years worth) but I thought hey, I will call up anyway and see what happens…. that was 21 years ago and I am still in the sector I fell into… Over the years I have hired many staff myself and obviously have placed hundreds and thousands into new roles. One thing I have personally always tried to do is challenge the hiring client on the background and have become known within my own client portfolio as somewhat of a “curved ball” recruiter…. Let me explain. In my first recruitment job, I placed experienced engineers into the automotive and manufacturing sectors; we were a very consultative led division and often worked retained and exclusive roles based on how “sniper focused” we were on taking a requirement I was top biller in the business by the end of year 1 and there was 1 reason for this; I would take the most important aspect of the job brief and almost disregard the “ideals” by focusing in on other aspects so I could then throw a curved ball candidate there way. A stand out example from those days was a process engineering 1st tier supplier needed a CADS5 design engineer with 5 years in the same market. Must have a degree from red brick university min 2:1 I had a candidate who had 3 years in a similar process engineering firm. Had done CADS5 training but was a proficient user of CATIA, so no, he didnt have the ideal background. But he had a 1st class Hons degree and when understanding the client a little more, realized they both shared a passion for golf at the weekends. The candidate got the job. And that is where I started to realize that you can push back on a clients requirements. And hiring employers must think much more outside the box. Understand what your essentials are; then decide which aspects are trainable and whether this person is someone you are going to like working with and is mouldable. In my role now, I often call a client saying that I have someone and I have not necessarily got the experience you asked for; focus in on someones hobbies or common interests. Do they have the transferable skills to learn the role, One of the best placements I made as an R2R is a high school math teacher! He has gone on to become one of the top recruitment directors in the NW and the reason for this is he had such exceptional communication skills having to persuade teenage boys to sit down and study maths that when he then applied that to a recruitment scenario, persuading clients to see his candidates was a doddle! So I am encouraging employers and recruiters alike be prepared to throw and catch a curveball. By no means disregard your hiring process. But with an individual sitting in front of you who may just be your next employee star, listen to their story and be receptive to their potential

Ngo Resume Writing Tips - How to Stand Out From the Crowd

Ngo Resume Writing Tips - How to Stand Out From the CrowdIn this article, I am going to be giving you some good Ngo resume writing tips. These tips are simple and easy to follow, and you will find that they will get you through your job search in no time at all.One of the things that you need to know about Ngo is that he is one tough cookie. It is important to understand that if you need to deal with him, you will be dealing with a very stern and demanding person. You cannot expect him to be reasonable or flexible, especially if you have never had any trouble with him before. That said, there are several ways in which you can deal with him and get your job interview in no time. The first tip for dealing with Ngo is to be prepared. This includes making sure that you dress appropriately and have neat and clean clothes to wear. While you do not want to appear a little wild or foolish, you need to be able to stand out from the crowd and look presentable. You should also make sure that you get to your interview on time. You might want to request that your manager inform the receptionist to let you in the room so that you do not appear to be rushing. After you have looked presentable, you need to go over your resume and make sure that it is well written. Ngo is not the type of employer who will give you the benefit of the doubt unless your resume looks great. If you do not have a lot of work experience or just two years, you will want to make sure that your resume reflects this. You can try to figure out what Ngo is looking for when it comes to potential employees. Some of the things that he would ask you to write down are some of the qualifications that you possess, whether you have ever been in trouble with the law, and any other questions that he might ask. In many cases, these are going to be the first things that he asks you about.During your interview, Ngo wants to see how well you are able to handle yourself. When he asks you a question, make sure that you answer it calmly and confidently. Many people fail to answer questions that they are asked correctly, but many others succeed. As an employer, Ngo expects you to have the necessary self-confidence to get your job interview done.If you have a problem with your eyesight, you can try asking Ngo to adjust the lights. This is something that most of us would be happy to do, but when you are interviewing for a job, you should make sure that you do it without shouting and crying. This will be quite a dramatic first impression that you will be making. Ngo does not want to meet an employee who is obviously under stress. In fact, he may even be irritated by your behavior. It is possible to stand out from the crowd, and Ngo is not the type of person who will accept your first impression as the last word. Make sure that you follow all of these Ngo resume writing tips, and you will be on your way to getting your interview.

3 Ways to Stay Authentic - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

3 Ways to Stay Authentic - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I recently had the great pleasure of attending a VIP private performance with Pentatonix,  Platinum selling recording artists and two-time Grammy winning American a cappella group consisting of five vocalists: Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Mitch Grassi.   They are one of the most astute groups to engage and nurture a loyal community of supporters online and offline known as Pentaholics.  So, they’re not only insanely talented artists they are super savvy marketers. As they were starting to perform it became apparent that even though we were a small group, there were not enough chairs for everyone.   Mitch Grassi noticed that my sister needed a chair and instead of warming up quickly ran and brought her a chair. There were security people and VIP hosts around who could have easily and would have easily done this but Mitch thought nothing of it to go grab a chair and bring it over.   Which immediately made me think of how many people I’ve seen who have told other people to go get things for their guests or to go retrieve something for someone.     I, myself, have done this too. To me this was an important reminder on how to keep things authentic and grounded in your interactions.   You are still you.   Regardless of accolades or titles, at your core you are your personal brand.   It is what makes you unique.     At Mitch’s core, instantly we saw that he’s caring, aware, grateful and humble.     He said “of course, he’s happy to bring a chair.”   And, from the stage, in front of thousands, he said, “none of this would even be possible if it wasn’t for each and every one of you. We love you and appreciate you so much!” With social, we interact with so many people in the span of one hour now than we would have ever done in decades past. Because of this, a lot of these interactions run the risk of appearing inauthentic. To get the meeting over as quickly as possible so as to move on to the next on the daily checklist, we often engage in a hollow back and forth between you and customers as well as potential partners both on the web and offline. While you can’t hope to give every single new person the same amount of attention, you can make sure every interaction you have is truly authentic. By doing so, you reduce the risk of scaring off a potentially beneficial partnership because the other party saw you as an uncaring individual. Be Yourself The first thing you can do to sabotage your public persona is to appear one way to certain people while appearing differently to others. Because people talk, it will quickly be known that you change your colors based on the situation, marking you as an inauthentic, two-faced liar. Though maybe not extremely bad, it nevertheless undermines your character, putting people on guard while dealing with you even if it’s their first time every coming into contact with you. They won’t take your words at face value, and they’ll assume that it’s safest to not trust anything you say. That’s why it’s so important to never send mixed messages by being polite and optimistic online but pessimistic and harsh in person. If you’re having trouble here, the strongest choice to make is to unify your various personas. After all, your online and offline attitudes still make up the you that people interact with. Only through a streamlined character can you build a personality that is taken at face value. Keep in mind that this personality can be as polite or as rude as you want. Authentic doesn’t mean polite, authentic simply means consistent. Do More than Sell While many of us are in some form of sales, when we hear the word “sales person” or even “she’s in sales”, there are often times some sort of negative perception associated with that label.  This is because from past experiences we may have found interactions inauthentic   and an unspoken understanding that they are trying to tell you something. Whether they ask about your day or try and hold friendly conversation on a topic you enjoy, nothing ever seems genuine even if they are legitimately trying to be straightforward with you. Around that type of person, you can’t relax. As soon as you do, it feels like they’ll jump on trying to pressure you into buying something you don’t want. Truly authentic people never come off as having ulterior motives. However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t any. All it means is that, both online and offline, people feel like they can relax around you and open up about their lives without then being betrayed because you try to slip in a sale. While it might seem like a good tactic to lull someone into a sense of security before pouncing, this really only works when you interact with the person once and the interaction remains contained. Because interactions are forever accessible online and because people like to talk, the strongest choice is to actually spend time fostering honest relationships with people. Word will then spread of your genuine nature, making it even easier to connect with others. Be Self-Aware One of the biggest landmines in terms of maintaining authenticity is the ego. Designed to protect our identities and valuation of our own worth, the ego is a temperamental aspect of our psyches that tends to overreact when any sort of critique comes our way. If we allow it to rage and rail like it wants to in public, we come off as temperamental individuals that have no control over emotions and are unable to think rationally. It’s a form of inauthenticity because you are completely blind to the effect your reactions have on others. People will refuse to work with you because there will be no room for improvement no matter how many times you claim there will be. By the way, Mitch is not alone in staying true to his personal brand.  I remember when Kirstin Maldanado spilled water on the stage during a performance and ran and grabbed a rag to clean it up herself.   Yes, she’s great talent and even a greater person. Authenticity means being real toward others and also toward yourself. Accept and address critiques as they come. While many are just noise, there are great suggestions thrown around that, when implemented, show to everyone that you do listen and take their words seriously.

How to Get More Email Sign-Ups on Your Recruitment Agency Website

How to Get More Email Sign-Ups on Your Recruitment Agency Website As a recruiting or staffing agency, you will have plenty of website visitors (potential new clients) that take a look at 2-3 of your pages and then vanish never to come back again.  How can we make these people take action and sign up for your newsletter, a download  or simply get in touch? I recently had a chat with Tim Paige, Conversion Educator and podcaster extraordinaire at  LeadPages  to find out. You can  listen to the audio podcast on  iTunes    Soundcloud  (above)  or keep reading for an abridged  transcript of our conversation.  Questions by me, answers by Tim. A longer version of this post is available at Link Humans. How do you get visitors  to sign up on your site? The first thing would be to always keep your audience interest in mind. We have this tendency as business owners and as entrepreneurs, I think a lot of the times we’re A-type personalities. Not all of us, but a lot of us are. We tend to inadvertently focus on ourselves. When we talk about our businesses whether it’s on a landing page or our website or whatever, we talk about our business. That’s not really the best way to go. When you’re speaking to an audience, you want to be focusing on them, not you. If I go to a website, me as a consumer, I’m not particularly interested in that website or that business; I’m interested in what that’s going to provide for me. Even if it’s on a subconscious level, I’m still trying to figure out what I can get out of that or how that provides some kind of value in my life. We as entrepreneurs, and business owners, and marketers, if we’re constantly focusing on ourselves, then we never really answer the question of what’s in it f or me, which is what every visit to your website or patron to your business that that’s exactly what they want to know, “What’s in it for me?” The first step is to make sure that all of your messaging, all of your targeting, everything that you’re doing is focused on the customer. The second step is to start asking them for their email address. The simplest way to go about this and this is the way that you see a lot of entry level marketers do is they will put just a simple opt-in form on the website that maybe they got from AWeber, or  MailChimp, or something like that, and it’ll say “subscribe for e-mail updates.” I would say given the choice between that and not asking for an email address, that’s a better way to go. But here again is a problem is that if we’re just telling people, “Hey, enter your email address to subscribe for updates,” we’re not providing real value there. Remember it’s still focused on you as a business, not them as a customer. So saying “subscribe for updates,” that just means they’re going to get updates about your business and most people really aren’t interested in updates about your business. Instead the way to really start building an email list is to start offering people something in exchange for their email address. Think of it as a kind of transaction. The same way as you would sell them your product or sell them your service, they would give you money and you would give them the product or service. The email address is to you, the entrepreneur, it is just like money. Having that email address is now an opportunity to market to them in a way that they have asked you to do so. You need to exchange them something for that money or currency that they are offering you. We call that a lead magnet. Some people call it an opt-in bribe or a freebie or whatever, but we call it a lead magnet. It’s something that you offer in exchange for somebody giving you their email address. There are lots of options for lead magnets. A simple one that we’ve found that converts really, really well is what we call a resource guide. That is just a list of tools or resources that can help your target customer accomplish something whether it’s some products that can help them overcome their pain, whether it’s five outfits that they can wear to look great at their next party, or whether it’s some websites to help them get more business, or whatever it is. It’s a simple list of tools or resources. We recommend it be a one-page PDF list of tools or resources. What you do is you put some copy related to that on a landing page. What are the best tools  for gathering sign-ups? It’s really hard because we have so many integration partners at LeadPages that we just love. I do think it is a largely personal thing. I’ll give an example and this is in no way saying that these are the best tools or aren’t the best tools, but I’ll give a great example. At LeadPages, we use Infusionsoft. Part of the reason is because it offers a ridiculous amount of flexibility. With over 150,000 people on our mailing list and with very tech savvy folks on our team that focus entirely on that, it makes sense to do that. There are great tools like ActiveCampaign. It’s kind on the level of Infusionsoft in some ways. Some people love it. Some people love MailChimp and hate AWeber. There a lot of different options out there in terms of email service providers and I recommend you try a few and see what works best for you. In terms of landing page creation, webinar registration, sales pages, that kind of stuff,  LeadPages hands-down we’re the leader in the space. We have over 30,000 paying customers. We have literally tens of thousands of split tests happening across our platform at all times. Over 6 million pages have been created on out platform. LeadPages is the way to go in terms of landing pages creation and sales pages and the conversion tools on your website. If  you wanted to split test other elements outside of LeadPages… By the way, split test means you’re sending traffic to two different versions of a page and seeing what converts best. If you wanted to do something like that, then you can use a tool like  Visual Website Optimizer or Optimizely. This might sound funny, but I’m going to say if somebody were to be trying to get into this and start building their list for the first time, the two tools that you would need if you’re just starting are either AWeber or MailChimp, something in that line, and LeadPages. That’s a great way to start. And as your knowledge grows, as your ability to create conversions grows, as your copyrighting ability grows, as your sales ability grow, you can then move on to more sophisticated tools if you find that you need them. Many businesses don’t need a high level of sophistication. A simple email service provider and a landing page creator, those two things are plenty. From there if you find that you need some automation, for example if you want to start doing webinars on a high level, you can use something like GoToWebinar. I think a lot of people get caught up in the details and think they need all these different tools when at the end of the day, simple things are really all you need. What brands can we learn from? There are lots of great companies that are doing this well. In the enterprise space, there are companies like Shopify, Ontraport, Buffer are doing this really well.  Greenpeace, Mac Rumors, they’re doing this really, really well. There are also lots of brand marketers. For example, Amy Porterfield  is absolutely crushing it,  James Schramko from SuperFast Business is another great example, Pat Flynn  from Smart Passive Income, John Lee Dumas from EntrepreneurOnFire, all doing a great job of growing their email list, growing their brands and doing things the right way. Sample Resume Writing For Pharmaceutical Jobs

Sample Resume Writing For Pharmaceutical JobsNo matter what the company is looking for, a quality and professional resume can be very important in getting an interview with a pharmaceutical company. If you have been hired as a consultant or your job has changed, then this will be a good time to look at some samples of resume writing for pharmaceutical jobs.First of all, we are going to look at some sample resumes that you can use. You will find them on pharmaceutical websites or other places where the information will be in plain view. Some people may get scared by all the large print in the resume; however, the advantages of these samples are easy to see. There are many benefits to working with pharmaceutical companies that you may not have thought about. What benefits are those? Well, most companies that hire consultants are looking for someone who is specialized and experienced in the field they are currently in. A lot of these benefits can be seen on the sample resumes. For instanc e, if you have specialized in a specific area, this may be the best benefit for you. One such area is depression. Sometimes, hiring an individual that has expert knowledge in the field can help to solve problems in a more efficient manner. These types of problems include improving the effectiveness of therapy, preventative measures, and the like.Another important benefit is that this position may be one that requires you to travel. In the past, there was a stigma attached to traveling as a consultant and some companies refused to hire people who had been and gone on travel as a result. While this stigma is still around, it is one thing that should not deter you from applying for this position. One other advantage to working with these companies is that they may require you to have certain skills. This might mean being able to teach others, being able to help people through a mentoring program, or even being able to work in a support role in the company. This all depends on the compan y and the position. One key benefit to using a sample resume is that it allows you to see the process the company goes through to find potential hires. Often, a company will do research on someone before they offer them a job. Many times, this will be based on previous jobs they have done. From this research, they will be able to see if you have the personality to fit the role and perform well.Lastly, as you are creating your own resume, you will find that you can start fresh. Many people find that they really miss the comfort of having a well-written resume that can help them land that job.

Diversify your Career Portfolio

Diversify your Career Portfolio Being in control of our careers is what its all about.     If you were investing your money, wouldnt you have a portfolio mixed with different investments?   Short-term, long-term, US Treasury, International, stocks, bonds, CDs, real estate, etc.   (Can you tell I am not a financial guru? But you get my point.)   You dont put all your eggs in one basket, you diversify.   You do this because it offers some security. Following that same logic with our careers is  a way of creating  some stability.  Is it more work, certainly.   But consider the alternative? Jason Alba, founder of Jibberjobber, author, blogger, and much more, blogs a lot  about   multiple income streams.   It just makes sense to find additional ways of making money. My friends are doing it.   Rosas first love is wellness, so she has that business/website going, but she also works in a salaried job to supplement that income, plus she delivers seminars, plusmany other things.   Rosa gets it. This is the career insurance you need.   It is the only way you can guarantee that if you are laid off, you can survive. If you consider yourself a business, then wouldnt you be looking at the competition (employees outside of your company)?   Wouldnt you always  be looking for additional ways to expand your business (new product/services or new customer or new territory)? Let 2009 be the year you take control and diversify!
